The Genesis NFT collection that grows with the artist — Patrick Bezalel
“Are you selling NFTs?” This was the most asked question to Singapore fine artist Patrick Bezalel, to which he would smile and shake his head, until now.
Having his own art gallery in the city-state and sold over 800 original and limited edition artworks locally and abroad in the last three years, some would question if it was necessary for the established fine artist to join the NFT craze when he holds much success with his physical works. Indeed, it was not a necessity but it was his adventurous spirit to tread new grounds that compelled him into the metaverse.
The Genesis NFT collection
Titled “MEH-TAVERSE”, Patrick’s genesis NFT collection features 2,222 avatar sheep which he calls “MEH”. Spanning hours of hand-drawing variations of faces, bodysuits, hairstyles and accessories, the 2,222 MEHs were algorithmically generated, each with their own unique combination of attributes and level of rarity. Within the collection also are 10 distinct MEHs that are not part of the algorithm and hand-drawn entirely by Patrick. They come with an Augmented Reality function too, which one can view using the Artivive App.
MEH-TAVERSE is inspired by Patrick’s spiritual journey as a believer in Yeshua. Being a faith-based artist, he wanted his genesis NFT collection to parallel the beginning of his faith, when he wandered through life like a lost sheep and was found by his Shepherd Yeshua. With the 2,222 MEHs he created, he wants us to always remember that we are God’s sheep and He will take care of us like a loving shepherd.
Not just another art collection
More than just selling NFTs, Patrick invites his supporters to grow together and be part of his artistic history. “The only thing that won’t change is change,” he often quotes. Knowing that many of his supporters are not familiar with NFTs, he wanted them to join him in this journey and never lose the zest for learning and appreciating art. A Discord community was hence started to bring together people from all walks of life who share the same love for Patrick’s art. Within 2 weeks, it has grown to more than 7,000 members from different parts of the world. Patrick asserts that he will be in the NFT space for the long haul and is committed to providing inspiring art and journey alongside his supporters. MEH-TAVERSE is his bold venture to further his success as a faith-based fine artist, and to embark on a new adventure with a community that shares that same vision of bringing beauty, love, joy and hope into the metaverse through art.
